CO Removal via DAC 1
1PointFive’s DAC 1 facility, currently under development in the Permian Basin, will be able to capture 1 million metric tons of atmospheric carbon annually once at full capacity. That’s the equivalent of 40 million trees. Scheduled for completion in 2025, the facility is currently in its Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) stage.
1PointFive is currently allowing emitters to reserve up to 500,000 metric tons of Direct Air Capture capacity from DAC 1 in advance of the facility’s commissioning.
While the technology involved is proven and has long been in use elsewhere, DAC 1 is a first-of-its-kind commercial scale facility. A number of companies and governments worldwide have expressed interest in securing DAC 1 carbon removal units, and it’s anticipated that the entirety of its 1 million ton removal capacity will be 100 percent reserved by the time the facility goes online.
