Collective Responsibility

1PointFive: Supporting Environmental Progress Across Texas in 2025

Environmental stewardship is a core part of who we are here at 1PointFive. From protecting vulnerable coastlines to enhancing environmental education, we work with community partners to help preserve the natural resources that matter most. Here’s a look at the environmental efforts we’ve supported so far this year:

Partnering with the Harte Research Institute to Combat Algal Blooms

In the Gulf Coast region, harmful algal blooms such as “red tides” pose a growing threat to marine ecosystems and coastal communities. That’s why we continue to support the Harte Research Institute and its efforts to monitor and mitigate these blooms. Our funding contributes to crucial research aimed at protecting marine life and public health, allowing HRI to onboard a dedicated technician to maintain and operate the network of instruments.

Investing in Educational Infrastructure with CBBEP

1PointFive is proud to help expand the Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries Program (CBBEP)’s footprint. This year, we sponsored part of a new facility at the Nueces Delta Preserve that includes an open bay for vehicles and equipment, office space, and storage for environmental education supplies. Our contribution helps build out critical interior components like walls, plumbing, HVAC systems, and furnishings, which are all essential to the Preserve’s educational mission.

Protecting the Coastline with the Gulf of America Alliance

To help address erosion risks from sea level rise in Corpus Christi, TX, we continued our partnership with the Gulf of America Alliance (GOAA), which began in 2023.). Our contribution is supporting construction of a 500-foot living shoreline to protect the major roadway Laguna Shores Road in the Flour Bluff neighborhood in Corpus Christi. This natural buffer will help protect local infrastructure from erosion, flooding and sea level rise while preserving native habitats.

Oxy first partnered with GOAA in 2017, and 1PointFive joined the collaboration in 2023 to continue advancing the Alliance’s mission. Through the Gulf Star Partner Program, which serves communities in Kleberg and Nueces Counties, GOAA brings together public and private partners to support healthy beaches, clean waters, productive ecosystems, and thriving coastal communities. The program focuses on practical, science-based solutions in areas like coastal resilience, environmental education, habitat and wildlife conservation, and water quality improvement.

Restoring Marshes and Growing STEM Skills with Texas A&M AgriLife

This spring, 1PointFive launched its first collaboration with Texas A&M AgriLife through the Plant It Marsh program. Nearly 120 middle and high school students from six schools in Nueces and Aransas Counties helped restore 2.5 acres of degraded marsh and dune habitat, with a focus on the Flour Bluff community in Nueces County.

Working with partners including Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Texas Sea Grant at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi, and Texas A&M AgriLife Research, students planted 1,220 native plants they had grown earlier in the year. The project builds hands-on STEM career skills while enhancing habitat, water quality, and coastal resilience through the Gulf Star Partner Program.

Touchdown for Trees: Growing Greener Neighborhoods

On March 27, 1PointFive employees volunteered at the Don McLeod Sports Complex in Chambers County, TX as part of our annual Touchdown for Trees program with the Houston Texans. For every touchdown scored by the Texans, 1PointFive and the Houston Texans Foundation donate 1.5 trees to be planted across the Greater Houston area, planting over 70 trees total. This initiative brings shade, cleaner air, and beauty to public spaces to support our local ecosystem, all while helping to remove a little CO2 along the way.

Celebrating Earth Day in West Texas

On April 25, we took part in the West Texas Earth Day Festival, co-hosted by the West Texas Food Bank and Keep Midland Beautiful. The event welcomed families and community members to learn about sustainability through hands-on activities and engaging exhibits. From composting to conservation, the festival was a chance to honor the planet, spark action, and educate the public about 1PointFive’s mission.

Ongoing Partnership with the Corpus Christi Hooks

Since 2024, we’ve proudly partnered with the Corpus Christi Hooks and the Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries Program to help protect and restore the health of bays and estuaries in the region. This year, our focus remains on community events that blend fun with conservation—like the upcoming Coastal Paddle Cleanup scheduled for September 20. At last year’s cleanup, 1PointFive volunteers successfully collected over 80 bags of trash as they kayaked along Nueces Bay. These efforts underscore our long-term commitment to preserving Texas’ coastal ecosystems.

Looking Ahead

From coastlines to classrooms across Texas, 1PointFive is working alongside partners who share our commitment to making a difference in local communities. We believe environmental action starts locally, and we’re proud to support the people and programs driving change where it counts. Stay tuned for more updates throughout the year as we continue to invest in community-led sustainability.
